THIS MONTH WE LOVE...EASY SPRING DECOR UPDATES
It’s been a long, cold winter and now that Spring is finally here (always arrives a bit later in Cumbria) it feels like the perfect time get started on DIY/Decor projects around the home, quick revamps ready for the new season. Easter is one of the busiest weekends for DIY in the UK, so if you are looking for inspiration for your next weekend project read on.
Paint it
The easiest way to transform any space or any piece of furniture is with paint. We are so delighted to be now stocking Annie Sloan Chalk PaintTM. This wonderful paint is so versatile, you can use it on wood, metal, laminate, concrete, indoors, outdoors and beyond without sanding or priming. It’s an easy paint to use, just roll up your sleeves, open the tin and off you go. You can quickly breathe new life into tired pieces of furniture, making it perfect for weekend projects.
We have lots of paint projects planned over the coming months but we couldn’t resist giving this old pine dresser in the shop some of the “Annie Sloan” magic, it’s made the perfect display for the paint too. The top half is painted in Antoinette, a beautiful soft pale pink and the bottom in Scandinavian Pink, a warm dusky pink.
Antoinette is inspired decorative pieces and interiors of 18th Century France, when the finest red earths were mixed with white and used to make a dusky pale pastel for walls. It looks fabulous teamed up with Scandinavian Pink on the bottom. Scandinavian Pink is a dusky pink Chalk Paint™ colour inspired by the traditional colours found in much Swedish furniture.
With over 40 beautiful colours to choose from we have a colour to suit every decor style, with brushes and waxes available too we have everything you need to get started.
Easy Decor Updates
If you’ve freshly decorated your space and need those all important special decorative details or you just want to freshen up a room without doing any DIY, then we some easy update inspiration so you can update any space.
1. Wall Art
One of the easiest ways to update a space is with new wall art. A new arrival in our Caldbeck shop, we have a beautiful collection of work from Cumbrian Artist Sam Martin. Sam’s work is colourful and features many beloved locations around the Lake District, like "Daisies in Keswick" below
Another new arrival is a range of hanging posters from Oldfield Design. These posters come with wooden hangers meaning they are super light and easy to hang. Whether you love to explore the landscape on foot, cycle it or swim it these illustrated maps are a great addition to your walls and make a great gift idea too.
2. Spring soft furnishings
What could be easier than changing a lampshade or adding a cushion? Yet simple changes and updates to your soft furnishings can really change the feel and atmosphere of a space. Freshen your look easily with new lampshades and cushions.
Bring nature in with patterns and colours inspired by nature from Caldbeck maker Lomas & Lomas. Each design takes a shape from a photograph captured by Garry Lomas, shapes are silhouetted, mirrored or repeated to create designs with colours inspired by the landscape.
Cumbrian printmaker Liz Jones creates colourful nature inspired patterns, printed onto linen which she then translates into cushions. You can read more about the stories behind theses design in our Meet our Makers series..
And every stylish nature inspired home needs a bee cushion ( bee cushion in terracotta below)
3. Grow it
Spring means the growing season is back! Now is a great time to repot your indoor plants, start feeding them and treat them to a new plant pot or hanging planter.
For natural homes and fans of natural textures choose a seagrass hanging planter, these looks great grouped together hung at different heights.
In our Caldbeck shop we also have a great selection of patterned ceramic planters
Ideal for indoors or outdoors, we have a selection of vintage inspired, metal "Dolly Tub" style planters. Available in small, medium or large. ( medium seen below) the medium and large are ideal size for small trees, which make a dramatic feature in any room or patio.
