Welcome to Hesta Scene
Welcome to the first in our new series of shop blogs all about life at Hesta. On the blog we will be sharing news and updates from the shop, you will get to know more about our artists, makers and favourite brands - plus we will share styling inspiration for you and your home.
But first we wanted to tell you more about us and where we are. Hesta Scene comes from the Cumbrian word Hesta, meaning “Have you”. Our shop has two floors and is in the picturesque Lake District Village of Caldbeck. We are located on the Cumbria Way, in a quiet corner of the National Park about 25 minutes from Keswick, Penrith, Carlisle and Cockermouth. The dramatic landscape that surrounds the village is dominated by High Pike and the peaks of the Northern Fells, making for some breathtaking walks.
Caldbeck has a truly special feel, with a wonderful community spirit supported by the Northern Fells charity. The village may be small but we can boast a pub, the Oddfellows Arms as well as two cafes - The Muddy Duck and the Watermill Cafe. We have farm fresh milk at the Midtown Milkhouse, fresh produce & groceries at Caldbeck Village Stores. Priests Mills is home to The Wool Clip and Caldbeck Crafters, we also have a Fairtrade shop, Lofters Hair Design. The village also benefits from a doctors surgery, a bowling club, Caldbeck Cricket Club, Men In Sheds workshop as well as a church and a chapel.
Hesta Scene opened its doors way back in 2009. Our building dates back to the mid 1700s and was once a squash court, in fact the original court floor can still be seen in our downstairs showroom. Over the past 12 years Hesta has grown into a retail destination for visitors and shoppers from all across the region, those seeking something special for their home or a gift for friends and loved ones.
We stock a good range of handmade items and artworks from local makers and artists’, proudly made in Cumbria and many items made right here in Caldbeck. Our range of local work includes paintings, ceramics, knitted accessories, home fragrance, photography, greetings cards, lampshades and cushions.

After the second lockdown we opened with a whole new room dedicated to home wares for our interiors savvy customers. The space had, in previous years, been used for workshops but after the second lockdown we felt the time was right for a fresh start and to make the most of this room.
Our home and interiors ranges are carefully curated to blend a mix of handmade, many one off pieces from local makers alongside design-led, quality brands such as Raine & Humble, Nkuku, Liga and Bloomingville.

We also stock plenty of inspiration for your four walls too with a wide range of photography, original paintings as well as graphic design and lino prints. We have something to suit every taste.
